At the time of its release, everyone involved with Resident Evil: Extinction seemed to imply it was the last for the zombie franchise. Now Paul W.S. Anderson, director of the first and writer of all three, is hinting at a possible fourth. He recently talked with MTV and had this to say:

“I’m just starting to talk to Sony about it,” Anderson confessed. “I don’t even know if anything will come of it, but there’s a possibility it might happen.”

“I love the ‘Resident Evil’ franchise and we always try to make the best possible movie we can. If we could find a good ‘Resident Evil 4’ to make, then we would do it,” he said. “But I wouldn’t just do it for the sake of it, that’s for sure.”

The first three in the series never blew away critics or audiences, but did manage to make back their production budget, and were also popular on DVD, so it wouldn’t be that crazy to think Sony wants another one.
