David Chase Set to Direct His First Feature

David Chase, the genius behind The Sopranos, has just signed a deal with Paramount Pictures to write, direct and produce his first feature film, reports Variety.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the studio described the project as an original drama. A source familiar with the deal said the drama will not revisit the world of the Mafia, which provided the basis for The Sopranos. In fact, Chase is still mulling what exactly the project will encompass, and he’s expected to take his time in delivering his script.
Chase has a longstanding relationship with Paramount chairman Brad Grey, his producing partner on “The Sopranos.” The deal gives Chase tremendous creative freedom, including final cut, which is uncommon for a first-time director.
As for the long rumored Sopranos movie, Chase recently talked with The Hollywood Reporter, saying “There’s no reason for us to foreclose the idea of ever doing a feature. But so far, that definitely hasn’t happened. I don’t think it will.” – Bummer.
