Denzel Washington Set for Book of Eli

Denzel Washington has signed on to star in The Book of Eli, a futuristic drama that brothers Allen and Albert Hughes (Menace II Society, Dead Presidents) will direct. Washington will also produce the film along with Joel Silver.

According to the Hollywood Reporter the post-apocalyptic drama is based on a story by Gary Whitta, with a rewrite by Anthony Peckham, and focuses on the not-so-distant future where America is a wasteland and a lone warrior (Washington) fights to bring society the knowledge that is key to its redemption.

Whitta wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Akira adaptation and Peckam wrote The Human Factor, which Clint Eastwood will direct with Matt Damon Starring, as well as co-writing Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes.

Filming is scheduled to begin in January in New Mexico, home to another post-apocalyptic production – Terminator: Salvation.
