The news front for J.J. Abrams’ take on Star Trek has been a little slow lately; there were some rumors recently but nothing from the home camp for quite some time. I’m not a Star Trek fan in any way so it didn’t really bother me. But for the millions of fans worldwide it may have been a problem, hopefully this bit of news will tie you people over for a bit.
I always find it funny that all it really takes is the right group of people and an actor will jump aboard anything. Case and point – Erica Bana has signed on to star as the villain Nero in the upcoming Star Trek prequel. Something tells me if Jonathan Frakes was directing again Bana wouldn’t have even returned phone calls. J.J. Abrams and company seem to be those right people for Bana, and the right people can be said for an audience as well – I have absolutely no interest in Star Trek, but the fact that Abrams is involved has me interested.
Bana joins Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin and Leonard Nimoy. Star Trek is set to open Christmas 2008.
