Fox Bringing Back Romancing the Stone

Seems today is all about the remakes. To go along with the news of Arthur and They Live comes word that Fox is developing a remake to the 1984 adventure movie Romancing the Stone. The studio has hired Daniel McDermott (Eagle Eye) to write it.
Robert Zemeckis directed the original which starred Michael Douglas, Danny DeVito and Kathleen Turner. It was written by Diane Thomas and told the story of a repressed romance novelist who travels to Colombia to find her missing sister only to meet up with an American soldier of fortune. The two embark on a cross-country adventure involving a map, a jewel and a private police force.
The original movie helped launch Zemeckis as a director, turned Douglas and DeVito — then best known for their TV work — into film stars and established Turner as a romantic lead.
A sequel, Jewel of the Nile, opened in 1985 with the three leads all reprising their roles. Zemeckis turned down directing duties, opting to do Back to the Future instead.
Check out the trailer for the original below.
