We’ve been hearing about Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards on and off for several years now, and this past Cannes Film Festival the director revealed that he’s finally moving forward on the WWII flick. He’s apparently been working on it for so long that the material has built up, and it looks like he’ll be pulling a Kill Bill and splitting it into two films.

Harry over at Ain’t it Cool recently confirmed this juicy scoop from a new interview that QT gives for the upcoming special edition of Enzo Castellari’s Inglorious Bastards, a film that inspired Tarantino’s Bastards.

“…he’s done so much research into the actual events of World War II as well as the cinema of World War 2 - that the story kept growing and growing. It became too big for one film - so he’s turned it into 2. That’s right, INGLORIOUS BASTARDS will be two movies”

“…the premise is the basic jumping off point from Enzo’s original - that you had a bunch of hardened criminals on a military transport during World War II - that got ambushed by the Nazis. Everyone but the criminals gets killed and the prisoners decide to make their way to neutral Switzerland - and must fight the Nazis and the Allies to get there. It’s a true No Man’s Land scenario.”

The 3-disc special edition of the original Inglorious Bastards, the DVD where Tarantino reveals all of these details, will be available on July 29.
