Mila Kunis (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) has joined the cast of The Book of Eli, the Denzel Washington action thriller from Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment. Albert and Allen Hughes are directing.

The script, by Gary Whitta and a rewrite by Anthony Peckham, centers on a lone hero named Eli (Washington) who must fight his way across the wasteland of a near-future America to protect a sacred book that might hold the key to saving the future of humanity.

Kunis plays a woman named Solara, at first enlisted to betray Eli, she ultimately joins him in his quest. Gary Oldman also stars in the flick as the dictator of a small makeshift town who’s determined to take possession of the book Eli is guarding.

Kunis last starred in Max Payne opposite Mark Wahlberg. The actress is also starring with Ben Affleck and Jason Bateman in Mike Judge’s upcoming comedy, Extract.

Principal photography on Eli begins in February in New Mexico for a 2010 release.
