More Problems for Justice League

It seems like this live-action Justice League has been plagued from the start, whether it be fighting rabid fanboys (myself included) who think it’s shaping up to be horrible, or delays from a writers strike, Justice League can’t seem to get a break. A few weeks ago it was announced that it would still be moving forward, with plans to come out sometime in 2009, but now comes word that Justice League may face even more delays. The comic-book flick was (is) planning to shoot in Australia, but recently the movie was denied the Federal Government’s new film production rebate. A rebate that would see a 40% refundable tax off-set for the flick. The main argument being that big-budget movies not developed by Australians from inception should not be eligible.

George Miller, the director of the movie and fellow Aussie, isn’t too pleased by this decision. He recently spoke to the Sydney Morning Herald and had this to say:

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Australian film industry is being frittered away because of very lazy thinking,” Miller said. If that’s going to be the final decision, they’re throwing away hundreds of millions of dollars of investment that the rest of the world is competing for and, much more significantly, highly skilled creative jobs.”

So it looks like Justice League has once again been delayed. Warner Bros. will either try and fight the decision or move the production somewhere else, either way it probably won’t be meeting its current schedule. On a side note to this story, the Herald also reported the movie as Justice League: Mortal. What the hell is the deal with all these lame subtitles as of late? What’s wrong with calling it Justice League?
