A New Universal Solider with Van Damme?

What may seem like the headline for a belated April fools joke might actually be true. The good folks over at Cinema Blend have received word, from one of their “most reliable sources” that a new direct-to-disc Universal Solider flick is in the works. The crazy part, and something that would be awesome, is that said flick might actually star Jean-Claude Van Damme and, as if it couldn’t get any better – Dolph Lundgren.
From Josh Tyler at Cinema Blend:
The exciting thing here is that it’s not just another direct to DVD sequel with a bunch of replacement parts. Jean-Claude Van Damme, who starred in the original Universal Soldier, is in talks to topline this new one. Right now they’re developing it as a DTV project, but if they get him and if some of Van Damme’s other upcoming projects like Full Love do well, there’s a chance it could end up becoming a theatrical release. There’ve been whispers that Dolph Lundgren may be involved too, though that’s little more than a rumor at this point.
With people like Sylvester Stallone resurrecting old characters, with moderate success, it’s not crazy to think that Van Damme wants to do the same. The thought of seeing a new Universal Solider with Van Damme has me smiling, and then the thought of seeing it on the big screen with Dolph Lundgren co-starring has me completely giddy.
I’ll leave you with the trailer for the original, and let you ponder the possibilities of a new one. Is this something you want to see happen?
